Precision cooling, airflow and containment

Data centre and server room cooling in Nigeria

Cooling sized to measured load, not to a catalogue.

For server rooms and data halls with hot spots, unstable temperatures or a growth plan the current cooling may not support.

What we usually find

The problem in the room

  • Hot spots, alarms or equipment throttling despite the room feeling cold.
  • Comfort air conditioning carrying an IT load it was not selected for.
  • No measurement of load, inlet temperatures or humidity to base decisions on.
  • Planned densification and uncertainty about whether air cooling will keep up.
01

Measure before you buy

Inlet temperatures, humidity, IT load and airflow paths are surveyed at agreed points. That data, not a nameplate rating, decides whether the problem is capacity, air distribution or controls. The path is simple. A measured survey, then remedial options, then an engineering specification for the chosen option, then acceptance testing against agreed criteria.

02

Airflow and containment often come first

Blanking panels, sealed cable openings, hot or cold aisle containment and corrected tile or grille placement can recover usable capacity before any new unit is considered.

03

Precision cooling options, when the load justifies them

Where comfort split units are carrying an IT load, options can include room based precision units (CRAC with direct expansion, or CRAH with chilled water), in-row units close to the racks, or staged upgrades. Liquid or other advanced cooling is considered only for densities that need it, as a specialist design. Not every room needs precision cooling. The recommendation follows the measurements, the building and the power available.

04

Designed for Nigerian operating conditions

High ambient temperatures, dust, generator backed power and spare parts lead times affect equipment selection and maintenance planning. These are recorded as design inputs and agreed with the responsible mechanical engineer.

Scope

Deliverables, responsibilities and evidence

Scoped deliverables

  • Measured load, temperature and airflow survey of the agreed space
  • Assessment of the existing cooling against load, growth and availability needs
  • Options covering airflow fixes, blanking and containment, precision cooling, or staged upgrades
  • Specification and bill of quantities for the agreed option, designed by qualified engineers
  • Coordinated installation, commissioning and maintenance plan

Responsible specialists

  • HVAC and mechanical design by qualified engineers named for the project
  • Precision cooling supply and installation through OEM or approved partners
  • Liquid or advanced cooling only where load justifies it, and only as a specialist design

Acceptance evidence

  • Before and after measurements at agreed points
  • Commissioning records for installed units and controls
  • A failure mode test agreed in writing, where the design includes redundancy

Precision cooling is not automatically the answer. Some rooms need airflow management, not new equipment. The recommendation follows the measurements and the site constraints.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you supply precision air conditioning units in Lagos?

We don't hold retail stock. Equipment is specified for the project and supplied through OEMs or authorised partners named in the quotation, for projects in Lagos and elsewhere in Nigeria.

What temperature should a server room run at?

Acceptable ranges depend on the equipment and the design reference agreed for the project, for example ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidance. The target ranges are set in writing with the responsible engineer, not assumed.

What is the difference between CRAC and CRAH?

Both are room level precision cooling units. A CRAC unit typically uses its own refrigeration circuit (direct expansion). A CRAH unit uses chilled water from a plant. Which fits depends on the building, load and maintenance capability.
